First, there is some info at Jsm.org, the ministries website. But some is not kept totally up to date, such as the financial, classes, degree programs and such, but it does give you an overview of what to expect. For those who have not been to the site, this is our college.
Location-World Evangelism Bible College and Seminary is located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Baton Rouge is the capital and is of decent size, but we are kind of on the edge of town. The dorms and college are all on the ministry grounds, along with Family Worship Center and several other parts of the ministry. We are less than five minutes from interstate 10 and about 60 miles from New Orleans.
School-Webc has day and night classes offered. All classes are based on the Bible.(no three r's) The class size is usually small and the professors are easy to work with. There degree program starts with a one year degree(certificate) all the way to a fourth year(bachelors). For a normal semester you take five classes, a practicum, chapels twice a week, and a ministry training class. If you take a normal class load you will have school from eight to twelve on mon., wed., fri., and 8:40-11:30 on Tue. and Thur. The school is right next to the dorms so yo only have to walk to classes. Practicum is part of your schedule and it is working with one of the ministries that are at the church. There are several and it is pretty easy to work around with your schedule. All in all if you are looking for a school where only bible classes are taught and a place to get your feet wet in ministry then Webc is a good choice.
Professors-We have normally between five to six professors that teach each semester. They are all friendly and are willing to take the time to work with you and make sure that you understand their teaching. They make themselves available and are easy to get along with. One thing, if you don;t do your work, you will NOT pass.
Finances-It all comes down to money sometimes. I mentioned earlier that the financial information on the Jsm website was a little dated. Rent is now 900.00 a semster and tuiton is now 125.00 per class. This school is not accrediited so there is no financial aide available. Don't worry, if God wants you here and you follow Him, He will make a way. After all the fees, your total bill for one semester, is normally between 1850.00 and less than 2000.00 per semster. This includes all you need except for food and whatever finacial baggage you bring,( car, credit card) and pick up here(phone, cable, so on). If you can get here and get school paid, the cost of living is very low. One could live very easily on a 20 hr per week minimum wage type job if there school gets paid for. But don't focus on money, God has a very good habit of bringing those who are supposed to be here and making sure the money is there.
Around us-If you need a job when you get here, there are many college type jobs all around us. We are in walking distance of The Mall of Louisiana and a grocery store. There are also several resteraunts ranging from Mcdonalds to J. Alexanders and all in between, that are in walking distance. Also the ministry will hire college students when they have a job opening. So, if you don't have a car, no worry, you don't need one. There are also busses that run and there is a bus stop right in front of the dorms.
Dorm Life-If you are not from around here and are under the age of 25, welcome to the dorm life. The dorms is called Bluebonnet Towers. We only use two floors on one side of the building, so the rest are rented to the public, but it is not very crowded. Parking is good and it is normally well lighted. We do have security in the building at all times and also on the ministry grounds. Our rooms are about 250 square feet and is equiped with two beds,(extra long twin sized), two desks, two dressers and two closets. but because of our small size you get the room to yourself but you share the suite with one other person. That means you share a bathroom that connects the two rooms together,(you have a sink in your room). You could rent both rooms but that doubles your housing costs(1800.00). The rooms are pretty big considering that most colleges you get a smaller room that you have to share with someone else and higher rent. We have two rooms filled with washers and dryers so it isn't that hard to wash clothes. Most of the public that live here are pretty nice and the staff looks after the college students. We also have a free membership to the Ketcham Fitness center which features a pool, weight room, basketball and raquetball courts and a track. There are also outdoor tennis courts that we have access to.
All in all we have a nice school that will help you if you have been called into the ministry or to just learn the Bible. You will go through tough times(a.k.a. Wilderness Experience Bible College) as all who do God's will, but the students and staff will always be there for you to help you. We are not a perfect student body but we try to follow the two commandments in the New Testament, love God with all our hearts and to love our neighbors as ourselves.
If you have any questions, E-mail me and i will help point you in the right directions. Also you should find information at Jsm.org to contact the school itself and the professors. Thanks for looking at Webc and Lord willing we will see you here
